Helping needy kids in Singapore
Underprivileged children are the focus of charitable efforts
at MSD Singapore. Employees have contributed time and money
to support the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home in Changi.
Opened in 1968 by the Wesley Methodist Church, the Children's
Home provides nurture for needy and disadvantaged children
aged 4 to 12 of all races and religions. MSD Singapore 's
involvement began in November 2001 with an internal donation
drive and auction. The company matched employee contributions,
and more than $6,000 was raised for the Children's Home .As
part of the outreach initiative, a vaccination program which
allows children to say "no" to chickenpox was also
organized to benefit some 200 underprivileged children in
Singapore. Future plans include providing ongoing donations
of clothing and books and an Easter Celebration. On an ongoing
basis, our employees are given the opportunity to volunteer
at Children's Home - either teaching classes or playing with
the children. The company provides training to employees who
are interested in working with the children. These volunteer
efforts have rich rewards - we help to create a better life
for these children and we also gain tremendous satisfaction
through participating in this meaningful program.
